Summer Exhibition 2026: Returning to Nature
Alhosh Gallery presented Summer Exhibition 2026: Returning to Nature, a large-scale group exhibition that explored contemporary perspectives on the relationship between humanity and the natural world.
Organized in collaboration with Kaynuna and curated by Munira Mohammed, the exhibition followed an open call that attracted artists working across a wide range of creative disciplines. A total of 57 artists from Qatar and around the world were selected to participate, creating a diverse platform for artistic dialogue and cultural exchange.
Bringing together painting, photography, sculpture, craft, installation, and mixed media practices, the exhibition examined the evolving relationship between people and their environments. Rather than approaching nature solely as a physical landscape, the exhibition presented it as a space of memory, reflection, belonging, and coexistence, inviting audiences to reconsider the role of nature within contemporary life.
At its core, Returning to Nature responded to growing concerns surrounding the increasing reliance on technological systems and modern infrastructures that, despite their convenience, may gradually diminish essential human capacities such as contemplation, critical thinking, manual craftsmanship, and direct engagement with the surrounding environment. In this context, the exhibition proposed a reconsideration of the relationship between humanity and nature, not as a nostalgic return to the past, but as a search for more conscious, sustainable, and meaningful ways of moving forward.
The exhibition’s conceptual framework drew inspiration from thinkers who explored the connections between nature, technology, and human experience. Their ideas informed a broader reflection on environmental consciousness, the value of embodied knowledge, and the importance of maintaining meaningful relationships with both place and community in an increasingly technologized world.
The exhibition featured significant participation from across the Gulf region, including artists from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, alongside contributions from Italy, Portugal, Russia, and other international contexts. This diversity of perspectives created a rich dialogue between local experiences and global conversations, reinforcing the exhibition’s commitment to cross-cultural exchange.
As one of the largest open-call group exhibitions hosted by AlHosh Gallery, the exhibition provided a platform that brought together emerging artists and established practitioners, creating a space for reflection on sustainability, craftsmanship, human experience, and the possibilities of coexistence between humanity and nature.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums. The opening also welcomed a wide audience of artists, collectors, cultural professionals, and international visitors, reflecting the growing significance of the exhibition and its contribution to contemporary artistic discourse in Qatar and beyond.
